Women and Alcohol

A new study says Wisconsin has a greater share of women who binge drink than any other state.

A women's health report card shows that more than 14 percent of Wisconsin women have five or more drinks on at least one occasion during a month. South Dakota and Minnesota come next in the study, with more than eleven percent of women binge drink. The report is done by the National Women's Law Center in Washington, D.C., and the Oregon Health and Science University.

Doctor Julie Fagan is an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. She says attitude is part of the problem and that drinking often starts with high school.
