Wisconsin Sailor Dies Hours After Returning Home

A 21-year-old Navy sailor died in a car crash in the village of Port Edwards in Wood County only hours after being home on leave from the Middle East.

The Wood County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Matthew Oleson of Wisconsin Rapids. He was a passenger in a pickup truck that overturned early Sunday morning. The driver of the truck, Scott Holubiw of Burnsville, Minnesota, also died in the crash. Deputies say the cause was speeding.

Oleson was home on a 28-day leave, after serving in Bahrain as a mechanic for seven months. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June, 2001 after graduating from Nekoosa High School.
