When dignitaries like Iraqi President Jalal Talabani visit the Mayo Clinic, the Rochester Police Department helps provide security for them and usually foots the bill.

The 73-year-old Talabani arrived Sunday for tests and treatment at Mayo, and is expected to stay in the city a few weeks.

Security details have been stationed near the Kahler Grand Hotel since Sunday evening, when Talabani's motorcade rolled through blocked-off streets downtown.

The Rochester Police Chief says Secret Service is mainly responsible for the security of visiting Heads of State and has taken the lead in protecting Talabani.
