DNR Reminding Campers Of Ban
A new rule bans the burning of firewood at campgrounds managed by the state unless the wood was grown within 50 miles of the site.

As the camping season heats up with the long Memorial Day weekend, a state parks administrator says the new regulation is catching some campers by surprise.

The DNR's Bruce Chevis says firewood grown farther away is being confiscated.

The change is designed to stop diseases such as the emerald ash borer.

Chevis says that as of Wednesday, 60 bundles of illegal firewood have been seized from campers at Peninsula State Park in Door County. A bundle is considered enough for one day's campfire.
