The Defense Department has agreed to a second investigation into the death of a Wisconsin National Guard member.

The new investigation into the death of Specialist Stephen Castner will focus on several complaints made by his father, Stephen Castner of Cedarburg.

Even before his son died, the elder Castner raised concerns about the training his son received at Camp Shelby near Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He wrote Congressman Sensenbrenner about those concerns voiced by his son and other members of his unit.

The 27-year-old Army gunner was killed July 24th after the Humvee he was riding in was hit by an explosive device near Tallil, Iraq.

Castner's father has asked the military to look into whether the Humvees in his son's unit were adequately armored. He says the Army report also shows a breakdown in radio communication procedures immediately after the blast and that delayed medical treatment that might have saved his son's life.
