Wisconsin Clinics Offer Morning-After Pill

The Wisconsin Family Planning Assocication is making the morning-after pill readily available to women through a new hotlline.

A toll free number has been setup at a Wausau clinic run by Family Health Services. Nurses at the clinic direct callers to a family planning clinic nearest them, or arrange to fill a prescription by phone. If a caller lives a substantial distance away, the pill is sent overnight.

Abortion opponents, however, are upset saying the pill increases the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, among other things.

Last week the U.S. Food and Drug Administration decided against allowing the morning-after pill to be sold over the counter.
