A former Rice Lake man will be held in custody indefinitely as a sexually violent person.

Eric Fankhauser, 21, was due for release March 1, after serving 3 years in prison for 2nd-degree sexual assault of a 6-year-old boy. But the state attorney general's office filed a commitment petition against him.

Barron County Circuit Judge Edward Brunner ruled this week that Fankhauser be held in a detention facility until he is no longer deemed sexually violent.

A psychologist's report indicates Fankhauser suffers from the mental disease of pedophilia, which causes him to be attracted to children.
