While downtown Chippewa Falls will eventually suffer from the future highway 29 bypass.
There's a new parcel of land that may serve as the city's next retail destination and it will soon be parceled and marketed for sale.
The state of Wisconsin currently owns the land, 242 acres on highway 29 at Seymour Cray Boulevard. The Chippewa Falls city master plan calls for 82 acres of commercial use and 136 acres of residential development.
City officials are eager to open up what essentially will be an eastern gateway into the city right where the 29 bypass would begin. \\The land is part of the northern center for the developmentally disabled.
The campus also includes the Highview Prison Treatment center and a future Veterans Campus.
Money raised from selling the land will go toward services for the disabled, veterans or corrections.
