Officers with the Chippewa Falls and Lake Hallie Police Departments may soon have law enforcement authority in each others communities.
A formal agreement has been passed by the Lake Hallie Village Board and is pending with the Chippewa Falls City Council.
Lake Hallie Police Chief Cal Smokowicz says the agreement would authorize officers to respond immediately to the neighboring community, stabilize the scene and possibly make arrests until an officer from that jurisdiction arrives. Right now, he says officers can respond to calls for assistance, but there's a protocol in place that can slow things down.
Smokowicz calls it a 'good neighbor' policy.
