Ho Chunk Payment

The Ho-Chunk Nation is the latest to join other tribes in the state to withhold an annual payment to the state.

Other tribes have also indicated plans to withhold payments which could cost the state more than $200 million in revenue for the two year budget that ends next summer.

Legislators likely will have to cut spending or find other revenue to make up the loss in tribal money.

The tribes are forgoing the payments because the State Supreme Court recently invalidated the gaming compacts signed by Gov. Doyle

The Ho-Chunk was to make a $30 million payment due June 30.

The Forest County Potawatomi said last week it won't make a $34 million payment.
