Hmong Immigrants Moving to Area

It has been estimated by federal officials that around 5,000 Hmong immigrants will come to the upper Midwest this summer.

Many will relocate in Minnesota, but around 100 refugees will settle in Eau Claire, another 100 in Menomonie.

This time around, the immigrants will be able to tap into a new resource: a Hmong community that's already settled here.

Thursday in Eau Claire County, school and charitable officials met to talk about how they can help make their transition to life in America a smooth one.

The Hmong Association has set up a fund for financial contributions called assistance for new arrivals.

They ask that the donations be sent to the Royal Credit Union.
