MADD Donations Down

The Wisconsin Chapter of MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, reports a major drop in donations after its leaders decided not to call for the resignation of Wisconsin Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager because of her February OWI arrest.

MADD reported more than $5,300 in donations in January, the month prior to Lautenschlager's arrest. In March donations totaled just $20. In April, only $5 was donated.

"That's a shame," says Michelle Hennick of the Eau Claire MADD chapter, "People have to turn their thinking around a little bit and support us because we are the ones who are doing the job to change the laws."

Lautenschlager has already pledged to help MADD spread the message to young people about the dangers of drinking and driving, but the two sides have not agreed on how she would do that.
