Ethanol Plant Groundbreaking

After three years of planning, the Western Wisconsin Renewable Energy Cooperative hosted the groundbreaking for an Ethanol Plant in Dunn County, near Wheeler, on Tuesday.

The $60 million project will be similar to other plants in the Midwest and will take 14 to 16 months to build.

The plant will have the capacity to produce 40 million gallons of ethanol per year from 15 million bushels of locally produced corn.

However, the future of the ethanol plant is still unsure because a group of local citizens have filed a lawsuit trying to stop the construction of the plant.

The case is expected to be decided on this summer.
