Over Sunday and Monday nights, four homes have been shot at with a bb gun in the City of Eau Claire.
Eau Claire Police spokesperson Jason Kaveney says there are no suspects yet, but police do believe that these four shootings are connected; three on the north side and one on the south side, and that they all seemed to happen between around 7 and 9 at night when families are home.
Scott Holman was just sitting in his living room watching the Vikings game Sunday night when he heard something hit his window. He says, ”Right away my wife was like get away from the window, it was kinda scary at the time because I didn't know what it was.”
But when police arrived and discovered it was a bb gun, Scott says he wasn't scared anymore, just irritated, “Well I just think I mean I’m sure it was kids, somebody that wasn't using their head, but to me it's just a pointless, random, stupid thing to do.”
Kaveney says while often times these type of crimes do end up being committed by juveniles, police aren't ruling anyone out quite yet. He says, ”Any case, involving a type of gun or a replica gun or pellet gun is considered very dangerous.”
Because if police and the shooter meet up, there’s no way to tell whether the gun is real. He says, “In a lot of situations while handling these cases, people don’t really know if the item a person has is a real gun or a replica gun and there's really no way to tell.”
Meanwhile, Holman tells us, “I hope they catch him, because we have a $250 deductible we'll have to pay ourselves, and ya know I don't think the kids think about that.”
Eau Claire police are asking everyone to be a little bit more aware and look out for anything suspicious.
