An annual event at Lincoln Elementary School in Eau Claire aims to teach their students the value of the freedom we enjoy as Americans, as well as the value of our symbol of that freedom.
Dozens of students gathered in song to salute the importance of Memorial Day. Even the younger ones seem to have a working knowledge of what the holiday is all about.
"I think about the American flag, and the brave people who fought for our country," second-grader Carolyn Fletty said.
Members of the Sons of the American Legion raised and lowered Old Glory before presenting the flag to the school principal.
Those involved in the ceremony said the flag is more than just a piece of cloth, the value the lives that have been lost in an effort to keep it and our country safe.
