Deputies arrested the driver of a van that hit and killed a nine-year-old boy the day after Christmas.
The driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Jarred A. Mortenson, was arrested and booked for operating a motor vehicle with a detectable amount of controlled substance.
No formal charges have been brought against Mortenson at this time. Mortenson was released from the Jackson County Jail on a signature bond.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident.
The boys parents confirm nine-year-old Dylan Nerby died after investigators say he rode a snowboard from his grandparents' yard onto County Highway P in Jackson County, north of Taylor.
Nerby was taken to an Eau Claire hospital, where he later died.
