The Sawyer County Sheriff's Department says a former deputy now faces sexual assault charges.
The criminal complaint shows two women say he told them to have sex with him or they would get in trouble. Court records show 59-year-old Robert Whyte from Hayward is charged with four felonies, including two counts of 3rd degree sexual assault and two counts of misconduct in office.
The sheriff's department says the assaults were reported in August of 2008. The department put the 15 year veteran on administrative leave during the investigation. Whyte has not worked for the sheriff's department since December 2008.
Court records show Whyte was in uniform when he had sex with the women. One woman told investigators he said he would get her license revoked and she would lose her child if she didn't have sex with him. The other woman says Whyte responded to a break-in at her house and after finding drug paraphernalia, said she could go to jail or have sex with him.
The Barron County District Attorney's Office is handling the case.
