The new prescription drug discount cards from Medicare went into effect on the first of June.

With the smaller than expected response, officials are working to educate the public on how the cards could work for them.

A meeting at Sacred Heart Hospital this morning offered seniors a chance to hear a presentation not only on the Medicare card benefits, but re-educating people on the benefits of Wisconsin Care.

The Eau Claire County Department on Aging recommends that before people make a decision about what to use, they research all their choices.

"There are other options out there. This may not be the best one for everybody," says benefit specialist Sue Brown. "It can be confusing so meetings like this will hopefully clarify some of those issues."

For more information or if you have questions about prescription drug cards or Wisconsin Care, contact the Department on Aging at 839-5106.
