Suspect In Town of Lafayette Shooting Death Charged
Julie Birtzer, 49, is charged with first degree intentional homicide in the death of Ralph Hakes.

The woman involved in the shooting death of her live-in boyfriend in the town of Lafayette has been charged.

A criminal complaint filed this morning says Julie Birtzer called 911 on June 13th and stated she shot Hakes in the chest with a 20-gauge shotgun at their home.

The complaint says Birtzer told the dispatcher that Hakes was going to “make me ride with him to shoot the dogs and I think he was going to shoot us both and I shot him.”

Birtzer will be in court for an initial appearance on the charge Thursday morning in Chippewa County court.
