The woman involved in the shooting death of her live-in boyfriend in the town of Lafayette has been charged.

Julie Birtzer, 49, is charged with first degree intentional homicide in the death of Ralph Hakes.

A criminal complaint filed this morning says Julie Birtzer called 911 on June 13th and stated she shot Hakes in the chest with a 20-gauge shotgun at their home.

The complaint says Birtzer told the dispatcher that Hakes was going to “make me ride with him to shoot the dogs and I think he was going to shoot us both and I shot him.”

Birtzer will be in court for an initial appearance on the charge Thursday morning in Chippewa County court.
