Ronald Reagan made many impressions during his eight years in office including one local republican.
John Torgerson saw Reagan before he became president at the Republican State Convention in Milwaukee in 1980, and at his farewell speech for George Herbert Walker Bush's Inauguration.
He calls Reagan one of the greatest presidents of the 20th century.
"The legacy he leaves us with is one of eminent decency, great political and foreign affairs success," says Torgerson. "He really set an example for any president, past or future to follow, relative to how to conduct yourself in that office."
A memorial has been planned by area republicans for Thursday, June 10 at 6:30 at 4424 Meadow Lane in Eau Claire.
