Priest arrested after being accused of embezzling money
A priest in Gays Mills is accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the La Crosse Diocese.

A priest in Gays Mills is accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the La Crosse Diocese.
He is in the Crawford County Jail Friday night. According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, Father Robert Chukwu may have used money from the parish to invest in Nigeria, where he believed to get a better interest rate. Father Chukwu has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Nigeria.
The Sheriff’s Department says Father Chukwu sent money to his family and other places in Nigeria. Records show he had unauthorized charges of more than $196,000.
Police arrested Chukwu Friday on felony charges.
