MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- University of Wisconsin System regents have approved a four-year, $1,200 tuition increase for UW-Eau Claire students despite a lack of details on how the money will be used.
The regents voted 14-2 on Friday to approve the plan known as the Blugold Commitment, which will raise tuition by $300 for each of the next four school years on top of any statewide increases.
The regents ordered UW-Eau Claire to return with a specific plan for spending the money in May.
Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich acknowledged a lack of specificity Thursday, but said he was waiting for approval before getting too far into details.
In general, the university says the money will pay for hiring more faculty and give students more "high-impact educational" experiences.

From February 4, 2010:
A key University of Wisconsin Regents Committee has approved a four year, $1,200 tuition increase at UW-Eau Claire.
The Business, Finance and Audit Committee backed the plan known as the Blugold Commitment despite a split in the student body and concerns about a lack of specifics. The committee voted to require UW-Eau Claire to return with more details about how the tuition increase would be used by May.
UW-Eau Claire says the money would pay for more faculty to reduce class sizes, increase financial aid, and provide more high-impact educational experiences for students. It now goes to the full board, and could be approved Friday.
