The 1-28th Infantry battalion of the Wisconsin Army National Guard has eight hometowns, and each one has been planning special send-offs before the soldiers leave for a mission in Iraq.
Monday night, the members of "D" company were saluted in River Falls. They were honored at the River Falls Armory with a dinner and informal tribute.
Wednesday, the full contingent of 680 soldiers will depart for training at Camp Shelby, Mississippi.
From there, they'll take part in a one-year deployment to Iraq. Tuesday, members of the Eau Claire headquarters company will be honored at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport.
