Updated: Tue 6:19 PM, Jun 22, 2004

This month the U.S. Forest Service will be using tanker planes to spray various regions in Northwest Wisconsin with green plastic flakes.

The flakes smell like female gypsy moths, so they distract the male moths during their mating cycle.

Gypsy moths damage trees, wildlife habitat and water quality.

Wisconsin is one of ten states targeted by the U.S. Forest Service for moth reduction.
