John Kerry's Visit Taxes Deputies

The presidential campaigns have targeted Wisconsin as one of the key states to win the 2004 election.

Last month, Bush visited La Crosse, and on Friday Senator John Kerry will be in Chippewa County. The visit has the Sheriff's Department calling for overtime from at least 25 officers.

The Secret Service traveling with Kerry has also requested the presence of the SWAT team.

Sheriff Doug Ellis says with his staff coming off of work at Country Fest and preparing for Rock Fest, it spreads resources thin.

"Political affiliations aside, it's taxing on our budget, it's taxing on the taxpayers and with this being a holiday weekend a lot of the people with plans for Friday night because I need them," says Sheriff Doug Ellis.

Ellis also said he plans to bill the Kerry campaign for the added expense of providing security.
