Carson Park Turf Project

The replacement of the football field at Carson Park started this week, and despite the holiday weekend, crews are putting in more than full time to keep the project on its deadline.

Crews started on Monday by removing the sod and old drainage tiles and put new, larger tiles in on Friday. They plan to add another layer of rock early next week.

Phil Fieber of the Eau Claire Parks and Recreation Department says crews plan to work six days a week and more than 10 hours a day, but are confident they will finish on schedule.

"We're very happy with how things have been going this first week because we are under a very tight time line for getting things done before the first football game," Fieber says.

The city is expecting that the landscaping will be finished and the crews will lay the turf down later this month.
