LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- The discovery of human remains stopped a construction project in La Crosse for much of the week ... and officials say the remains are believed to be those of an Indian who lived in the area hundreds of years ago.

The new underground parking ramp is being built near Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
>
Spokeswoman Marna Holley says the remains were found July 13th as contractors checked a possible route for water drainage lines.
>
The Mississippi Valley Archeology Center was called in, and a researcher speculated the bones were from a resident of an Indian village of about 650 years ago.
>
The hospital and the center are working with the Wisconsin Historical Society and the Ho-Chunk Nation on handling of the remains.
