Rural Health Co-Op's Coming

Officials with a new pilot project are gathering input on the best way to structure a program that uses the purchasing power of cooperatives to allow Wisconsin farmers and other rural residents to save money on their health insurance premiums.

It borrows a concept from large corporations and governments that save money because of the high number of employees they can bring to an insurer.

"Co-op Care" will allow farmers and people affiliated with small businesses to form purchasing cooperatives in five regions of the state.

The Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives is surveying rural residents to learn about their interest in the project. Their website is:
