To create awareness the University of Eau Claire and Luther Midelfort Clinic combined efforts to start a nursing camp primarily designed for minority students. A study conducted by the American Nurses Association, shows registered nurses rank fifth in the top ten occupations in terms of projected growth. Desipte the rapid increase in the medical profession, there is still a nationwide shortage of nurses.

The shortage has inspired the university and the clinic to run a week-long nursing camp teaching students health assessment skills, while providing tips on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Kids come from a variety of areas within the state of Wisconsin. Wednesday's group of 17 was from the Milwaukee and Racine area.

Melissa Howard, a Milwaukee high school student said the camp has created an awareness about the field of nursing, "This has been an awesome experience, I really appreciate what everbody has taught me, I did not know a lot in this kind of setting (hospital), but now I know a lot."
