Lakes and rivers can be a relief during the hot summer days, but they can also be dangerous. Tuesday evening, Eau Claire Police and Fire crews had to deal with two situations on Dells Pond. Around 5:00pm Tuesday evening at Riverview Park, a 4-year-old boy was rescued from the Chippewa River by a fellow swimmer when the boy went under water near the boat landing. A witness says it took several minutes to locate the people who were watching the boy. The boy was taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital, his condition is unknown as of late Tuesday night.
Downriver, authorities responded to the cliffs area near Mount Simon Park. Eau Claire police say a 36-year-old man was climbing up the edge of the cliffs when his foot slipped and he became caught between the cliff wall and the root of a tree. A crew had to launch a boat at Mount Simon Park and cut the root to get the man free. He was stuck for about an hour. He was eventually taken to a hospital, but police say his injuring were not serious.
