A new report shows Wisconsin saw more hate crimes in 2008.
The state Office of Justice Assistance study found police agencies reported 99 hate crime incidents in 2008. That's up 33.8 percent from 74 in 2007. The incidents involved 164 offenders and 116 victims ranging from individuals to businesses to religious organizations. Vandalism and simple assault were the most common offenses.
Milwaukee County had 33 hate crimes, the most of any Wisconsin County. Dane County was next with 21.
