If you plan to head out to Lake Winnebago anytime soon, health leaders want you to be careful.
>
They say the recent bloom of toxic blue-green algae on the lake could cause illnesses to people and animals through skin contact, swallowing lake water or inhaling the stuff.
>
DNR leaders say the blue-green algae bloom is different from the normal green algae that are common to the lake.
>
The toxic algae looks like a thick green or bluish-green slime, and often smells like sewage when it decomposes after piling on the shore.
