Wisconsin ranks fifth in the nation in total tax burden on its residents and businesses. But, the study says the state dropped one spot from two years earlier.
The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance analysis shows state and local
taxes in the took 11.7% of personal income in the fiscal year of 2002.
New York is first in the nation where taxes there took 13% of residents' income. The national average is 12.8%.
Wisconsin's neighboring state Minnnesota ranked 7th in the nation in tax burden. Taxes there take 11.3% of income.
