The Barron County Sheriff says the Chetek Mayor was arrested Friday for domestic battery.
Sheriff Thomas Richie says deputies assisted the Chetek Police Department in the arrest of Jerry Whitworth.
He was released on a $500 cash bond. Richie says the arrest stemmed from an incident Thursday.
As of now, a criminal complaint has not yet been filed to the District Attorney's office.
Richie says the battery was not extensive.
Through a written statement, Whitworth says he was sleeping when he woke up to a person entering his bedroom window. He says he shoved the person who he thought was a burglar. That person was his wife.
