Elk Mound Stabbing Suspect Living in U.S. Illegally

Dunn County prosecutors say the man accused of attempted first degree homicide in last weekend's stabbing near Elk Mound has been living in the U.S. illegally.

Jorge Carillo Zuniga, the 21-year old defendant, made his second appearance in court Thursday and agreed to a preliminary hearing set for Friday, Aug. 13.

Judge Rod Smeltzer granted the District Attorney's request that there be two translators present for the proceedings.

Zuniga does not speak English and D.A. Jim Peterson believes the same will be true for any witnesses.

Peterson says Zuniga is not likely to face any federal charges related to his immigration status.
