City Council Meeting

The Eau Claire City Council is giving developers the green light to build on land that used to house the clubhouse for the Eau Claire Country Club on Highway 53 and Main Street.

The Waterford Development will consist of residential, commercial, and retail space.

City Council members had a lengthy discussion this evening before passing the rezoning request.

An amendment was added, based on requests from neighbors who were opposed to the original plan.

The amendment adds four conditions, including a $100,000 donation from the developers toward building a pedestrian underpass so people don't have to cross a busy Hastings Way.

Now that the land has been rezoned, the developer still has to get the actual plans approved by the City Plan Commission.

Also on Tuesday evening, the Council took another step toward allowing the Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center to hold up to 20 percent of its activities as non-sports events, like conventions and trade shows.
