Some say the situation in Vernon County is only getting worse. Farmers in Readstown are dealing with flooded out farms.

What Kirk Olson used to call his yard, is now just another part of the Kickapoo River.

"Well about 11:30 I was out here fixing the fence and it was pretty well dry and all of a sudden a big wall of water came down through the valley."

Olson's farm wasn't the only one hit by the flash floods.

"All of the neighbors on the other side over here they all lost all of their crops."

His land isn't the only thing he lost. Olson’s truck was swallowed up by the river.

"When we woke up, the water was up to the roof of the truck right here. It's ruined. The motor got completely full of water, so it ruined that. The whole inside and all the water ran out."

He says his house wasn't spared either. He estimates the damage, at $8,000.

"The water down here was right about this high, right about neck high," says Olson, holding his hand above the roof of his truck.

Olson isn't happy about his new view of the river. And he still can't get over the flooding.

"This is the worst it's ever been. Normally it gets a little high and soft, but never built up this far."

Olson says he also found his two horses swimming in the river, and had to swim himself in order to save them.

Farmers in Vernon County whose farms were damaged by the flooding can report that damage to the Farm Service Agency at 608-637-2183.
