Dion Family Plans to File Lawsuit

The Family of a UW-La Crosse Student who drowned in the Mississippi River has filed claims against the city of La Crosse and the State of Wisconsin.

Jared Dion disappeared on April 10 of this year after leaving a downtown bar. His body was found four days later.

One claim states the University encouraged binge drinking by running ads for drink specials in the student newspaper.

It also claims that the 'Safe Ride' bus encourages students to drink downtown, which is close to the river.

A notice of a claim must be filed before a lawsuit can be filed against the city or state.
The city and state have 120 days to respond.
