The La Crosse Police Department says it'll team up with the United States Coast Guard in Operation River Watch.
The department says the Coast Guard Auxiliary Volunteers will have a patrol boat out on the Mississippi River at the same time the La Crosse Police Reserve Volunteers do. Both will monitor boater safety, rescue operations and assisting the Police Reserve and River watch volunteers along the river.
The department says this additional service will enhance safety efforts on and along the river. The Coast Guard personnel will have rescue equipment on board and radio communication with the land based volunteers.
