Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty is proposing a law requiring insurance companies to tell customers they are eligible for flood insurance. The governor says many people in the flooded area of southeastern Minnesota didn't know they could buy flood insurance.
A spokesman for the Insurance Federation of Minnesota says the group agrees many people misunderstand what's required to be eligible for flood insurance. He says the Insurance Federation supports additional education to make sure consumers know all the options that are available.
