Possible Risks for Pregnant Women on Anti-Depressants

The panel claims they have evidence of newborns suffering withdrawal-like symptoms after birth along with neurological conditions including tremors, jitteriness and in some cases hospitalization.

Dr. Donna Schoenfelder of the Eau Claire Women's Clinic says though there may be some risk to taking anti-depressants like Paxil and Prozac, she feels the risk of untreated depression outweighs any possible medication side effects.

Annie Bailey, a midwife at Luther Midelfort, agrees and says if women are concerned about the risk they should talk to their doctors right away, if possible before becoming pregnant.
