MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Segregation is growing in schools nationwide, including in Wisconsin, where it particularly affects black students.

That's according to two new national studies from researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Pew Hispanic Center.

The studies show that schools are more integrated than they were 40 years ago. But, schools are becoming increasingly segregated as the number of minority students grows and the number of white students declines.

Fewer white students attend all-white or nearly all-white schools.

But a growing number of black and Hispanic students attend all-minority schools.

The UCLA report says Wisconsin is one of a half-dozen states where the percentage of black students attending schools that are more than 90% black at least doubled from 1991 to 2005.

41% of black students in Wisconsin attend schools that are more than 90% black.
