A city is cleaning up after waking up Friday morning to graffiti on several buildings and even a car. Police say they haven't caught anyone yet but along with looking for the suspects, they're looking for help from the community.
St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Altoona Library, bicycles and even someone's car were all spray painted over night.
"It makes me angry this is an offense to the community. It's just senseless crime for really no gain these are people who are angry or think they can just trespass on the peacefulness of the community, it's just offensive. It's crimes that are just hard to swallow for law enforcement,” says Altoona Police Chief Todd Chaney.
He says crimes like this don't make sense and he's asking anyone who may have seen anything to let police know.
“It appears from time to time we have rashes of this it’s not an on going issue for the city but we have rashes of this and this might be the start of a rash of this type of activity so we want to try and nip this in the bud,” says Chaney.
"I was heart broken because I helped move the statue over here when it came from it's original spot during some construction, so I was quite upset about it,” says Ted Lubick who had to do the clean up this morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He says he can't imagine why anyone would do something like this.
"I wondered why, there's no reason for it and I feel sorry for the kids that did it because now they're in big trouble when they get caught and that kind of trouble follows them a long time,” says Lubick.
Most of the spray paint was cleaned up within a few hours at both the church and the library. The statue of Mary got a fresh coat of paint to go over the spray paint.
The Altoona Police Department is asking for your help if you have an information on the graffiti you're asked to call 715-839-6090.
