Three law enforcement officials testified against the Jim Falls woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend in the chest a week ago.
Thirty-nine-year-old Melissa Hughes did not speak at her preliminary hearing Friday morning. Hughes is charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide and aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon.
Chippewa Falls Police Officer Ryan Douglas testified that he responded to a call of an accidental stabbing victim at St. Joseph's Hospital on August 27. When he spoke with Hughes at the hospital, he says she had blood on her hands, clothes and legs.
"When I escorted her into the room, she immediately stated she 'did it.' I asked Ms. Hughes what she meant by that, and she said 'I stabbed him.' "
The victim, 37-year-old Ricky Harshman of Chippewa Falls, did not testify as expected, but he has been released from the hospital.
Bond was reduced at the request of the defense from $5,000 to $2,000.
A motion hearing has been set for September 15. If convicted, Hughes could face up to 75 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
