MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A retired lieutenant for the Ozaukee County sheriff's department has been charged with felony theft after allegedly racking up nearly $7,300 in charges on the department's credit card.
Dean Roberts of Cedarburg was charged Wednesday. The 55-year-old Roberts, who retired in 2008, could face up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
The complaint alleges Roberts used a department-issued credit card to make 73 unauthorized purchases totaling nearly $7,300 between 2007 and 2008. The complaint also says Roberts stole more than $1,800 from the department safe to make a payment on another credit card.
The complaint says Roberts admitted to using the card and taking the money.
Roberts had no attorney listed in online court records and his phone number was unlisted.
