Power outage affects hundreds in Eau Claire

By  |

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- UPDATE: Brian Elwood with Xcel Energy says about 5,700 customers lost power overnight, but some of the outage last only 5 minutes so some customers may not have noticed. The longest outages lasted about 30 minutes and all the customers had their power restored by about 3:45 am Monday.

Elwood says there is a guy wire that’s attached to a pole that’s attached to the ground. There are pieces in there that connect them to the pole and one of the pieces failed so the guy wire flipped up and came in contact with the power line and that caused the outage.

Xcel was able to do some switching to get customers on line and crews are working to replace the guy wire.

Eau Claire, WI. (WEAU)- A power outage affected the West side of Eau Claire Monday morning.

We have a link to the Xcel energy outage map which shows,
just West and South of Clairemont Avenue, between 500 to 2,500 customers are without power.

We put a call into the Eau Caire Police Department and an officer told us they haven't determined what caused the power outage, but crews are working to restore power. We'll keep you updated on this situation as we get more information.
