ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) -- Four people escaped from a burning house on Monday.

The fire happened on Hurin Road in Tony. The Rusk County Sheriff's Department says one of its officers found heavy smoke coming from the house and fire shooting out of the roof at the scene after 5 p.m. An adult and three children got out, and were not hurt. There's no immediate word on what caused the fire, or how much damage it left. The family was displaced from the home.

The Red Cross is providing the family with food, clothes, and a place to stay. A message left with the Ladysmith Fire Chief was not immediately returned.
