NEW INFORMATION: Power restored to almost 4,000 customers in Eau Claire County

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- UPDATE FROM XCEL ENERGY: At approximately 4:05 p.m. a backhoe driver hit a guy wire near Lake Road and 10th Street in Altoona. The wire snapped up and struck the power line causing an outage to 3,850 in the area. Power was restored to all customers by 4:50 p.m.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)--Almost 4,000 customers are without power in Eau Claire County.

Xcel Energy says the outage happened around 4 Wednesday afternoon. It's affecting about 3,850 customers in Eau Claire and Altoona.

Xcel says crews are out working to fix the problem. There's no word yet on what caused it.
