ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU)-- Several Altoona High School athletes are gearing up for the boys tennis and track state competition.

Seven tennis athletes left from the high school Thursday morning with a police and emergency vehicle escort. Eleven track team members will have a send-off from the school Friday morning.

Boys' tennis coach, Erin Welch, says she couldn't be more proud of her team.

"It's a great accomplishment and I know the kids are very proud of being able to make it down there, and they have just worked over hard this season and it really is a good accomplishment for them," said Welch.

The state competition for boys' track is held at UW-La Crosse, and boys' tennis is held at Nilesen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

Both events run through Saturday.
