American Legion gives back to women veterans

(WEAU) - The American Legion held a special event Monday for female veterans.

It was called The Female Veterans Holiday Stand Down. It was held at the American Legion Hall on Water Street in Eau Claire. There were exhibitors giving out haircuts, blood pressure checks and other services to women veterans who live in the Chippewa Valley.

An organizer says sometimes, women struggle with asking for help once they've coming back from serving.

Jane Dale, Treasurer of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 53 told us Monday ”There's a huge need for women at risk who have served in the military. They come back, and women typically do not like to ask for help. So we're looking for the ladies and hoping they'll let us help them. We want to share what we have and thank them for their service.

They also offered free clothing, bedding, books and games for women vets in need and their children.
